Important Notes for Annapurna Base Camp Trek

It will take you about 7 hours to travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara by bus. You can fly if you don't want to waste your time, and it will take only 20 to 30 minutes and cost you around USD 90.

The trek is moderately challenging, though a high level of fitness will make it a lot easier. Some of our guests, aged children and seniors, have done the Annapurna Base Camp trek, so most people can handle it.

Porters can carry a maximum of 20kg, but we suggest you pack light—preferably if you could keep your equipment under 10kg. We will provide you with a porter special duffle bag so porters can carry your equipment easily.

For the day pack, don't forget to take water, sunscreen, snacks, and your camera so you're set for each day's hike.

Meals are included in package during the trek, but you’ll need to pay extra for things like hot showers or charging your devices at teahouses.

Your hotel accommodation for two nights in Pokhara is covered in the cost of the trek. Other nights are included along the trek.

Keep in mind that drones are prohibited without a special permit, and a permit can take some time. Leave the drone at home unless you are a professional and can provide the documentation to support it.

This is not a Nepal high-altitude trek, but we would nevertheless suggest that you confirm if your insurance policy will cover trekking at 5,000 meters for your peace of mind.

Meals on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Breakfast: A Hearty Start

Every day begins with a wholesome breakfast around 7:00 AM at the teahouse where you’ll stay overnight. You can expect warm and filling options like porridge, eggs, toast, and pancakes, accompanied by tea or coffee. It’s the perfect meal to kickstart your day, giving you the energy needed for the trek ahead.

Lunch: Simple and Satisfying

After several hours on the trail, we stopped at a teahouse for lunch. Here, you’ll enjoy traditional Nepali dishes like dal bhat (lentils and rice), momo (dumplings), or noodle soups—tasty meals that offer the nourishment needed to keep you going. The menu might vary, but there’s always something comforting and delicious waiting for you.

Snacks & Hydration: Stay Energized

While trekking, it’s important to stay hydrated and keep your energy up. Feel free to carry snacks like energy bars, chocolate, nuts, or even some Tibetan bread. It’s also easy to grab a refreshing drink at the tea houses along the way. Keeping your water bottle full and sipping throughout the day is key to staying in top form.

Dinner: A Well-Deserved Feast

After a day of trekking, dinner is the highlight of your evening. At the teahouses, you’ll be served hearty, warming dishes such as dal bhat, vegetable curries, soups, and noodles. If you're a meat-eater, options like chicken or yak meat will also be available. It’s a time to relax, share stories with fellow trekkers, and reflect on the day’s adventure.

Beverages

Along with your meals, you’ll have plenty of beverage options to choose from. Tea is the go-to drink, with the ever-popular Nepali milk tea being a favorite. Coffee, hot chocolate, and fresh fruit juices are also available, especially in higher altitudes where a warm drink can be a comfort after a long day of trekking.

Dietary Restrictions on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Vegetarians will have plenty of options along the trail. For vegans, choices are more limited, especially when it comes to plant-based milk. If you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, please let us know in advance so we can inform the teahouses and ensure you’re well taken care of.

Accommodation on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek

On the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, you'll stay in welcoming tea houses that offer a warm and welcoming refuge after each day's trek. The accommodations are simple but comfortable, usually sharing with another trekker, and have the basics—twin beds and shared facilities. You might have squat toilets or Western toilets depending on the elevation.

What makes these teahouses so special is the warm hospitality and chance to share anecdotes with fellow trekkers, all with the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. The higher you go, the more basic the accommodations become, but it's worth the trouble. Don't forget to bring a sleeping bag for extra warmth, as it can be chilly in the high altitude.

All in all, it's an authentic and genuine experience in the middle of the Himalayas.

Porters on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Carrying a heavy pack for 8 days can be tough, especially if you are new to backpacking. While not the most technical of treks, having a bit of extra assistance can make a big difference, and that's where a porter can be of assistance.

Having a porter in Annapurna Base Camp Trek lets you leave the 10-15kg weight on your back behind and enjoy the trek to its fullest. You'll be able to absorb the breathtaking scenery, capture some amazing shots, and relish the trail without the burden.
