The Route to Chisapani Nagarkot

This short hike begins with an hour’s drive to Sundarijal. We will walk for around four hours to reach Chisapani at our first stop. The next day, we will take the seven-hour-lengthy walk from Chisapani to Nagarkot. The walk offers the best of both serene nature and country hiking experiences. You will also enjoy the hospitality, heart-warming smiles, and gestures from the locals that will imprint on your experience for many years.

Itinerary

An early morning drive to Sundarijal is a wonderful way to enjoy brief glimpses of Nepal’s landscape; whilst the drive, amazing view of the Ganesh Himal will be a pleasing sight to your eyes. The drive to Sundarijal consists of a road that whirls up through the hills with large forest vegetation. Once you step at Sundarijal, you ascend upward to reach the entrance of the Shivapuri National Park following a stone-paved path. The village has a temple dedicated to the Hindu deity Sundarimai after whose name the village has been introduced as Sundarijal. The village which is also famous for the Canyoning has the Bagmati River flowing through it, which is linked by the other two rivers; Shyalmati and Bagmati in the lower elevation. Sundarijal has few flat zones only and is generally covered by forests; therefore, it is largely hilly with respect to its area coverage. As you hike from Sundarijal to the Shivapuri National Park, the natural beauty presented around the trail looks pretty vibrant with the wide-open views of the gleaming mountains popping up in between the green hills. The ninth national park of Nepal, Shivapuri National Park that covers an area of the 159-kilometer square was named after the Shivapuri Peak. The Chisapani hiking through the park is decorated with subtropical Himalayan woods and several species of both vascular and prevalent species of flora. The faunal diversity of the national park includes animals such as Leopards, Jungle cats, Himalayan Black Bears, and Pangolins. The journey to Chisapani made even more enchanting by the mountain views of the Annapurna Panorama, the Ganesh Himal, the Gaurishankar Range, and many other peaks is a journey to celebrate. The hike from Chisapani to Nagarkot is going to be even more exciting than the previous day with an amazing journey of mountain views and a beautiful hilly outlook. The path that takes you to Nagarkot leaving behind Chisapani will take you through more dense forests, massive woodlands, an army camp, and other small villages. The trail twists a little bit of upward and downward paths and the lush vegetation of the area supplies a charming surrounding for the hike. Nagarkot widely shelters the thick forests and is located in a lush green valley with many villages spotted in its land. Nagarkot which is situated above the valley towards the north of the city is famous for its sunrise view amidst the Himalayas and is also called the premier Hill Station of the Kathmandu Valley. The vantage point of Nagarkot provisions the view of Mount Everest, along with many other peaks of eastern Nepal, and also a panoramic view of the Kathmandu valley and the Shivapuri National Park. The history states, because of its strategic location, Nagarkot was an ancient fort of the Kathmandu valley built to monitor the external activities of other kingdoms. Later, it became a retreat for the royal family before becoming popular as an international hill station. What has made it a special one is the fact that it is nearest to Kathmandu and it tips one of the broadest views of 8 ranges out of 13 Himalayan ranges of Nepal? The Himalayan range includes the Annapurna range, the Manaslu range, the Ganesh Himal range, the Langtang range, the Jugal range, the Rolwaling range, the Everest range, and the Number range. Once you reach the destination in the evening after a long day walk, the view of the sun gradually sinking behind those hills and the mountains will spellbind your heart. In the morning, when you wake up you will be able to notice the magnificent sunrise amidst the sapphire mountain ranges from your hotel room. This is what has made Nagarkot earned the top spot for enjoying Himalayan views from the comfort of hotel balconies without even having to walk through the difficult rough trails. After the breakfast, then inaugurates the journey back to Kathmandu. Engraving the sight of a sunset seen in the previous evening and sunrise of the morning from the room window in our hearts, our hike again starts descending through the trails to reach Changunarayan. Our driver will then transfer you to Kathmandu from Changunarayan with a private vehicle drive. Breakfast included.
